The most creative and deserving student work, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be published. A list of winners will be posted in the Winners Gallery area. A total of 4 Grand Prizes will be awarded to 3 students and 1 teacher.
Early Bird Drawing: Qualifying entries postmarked by TBD will be entered into a drawing where randomly selected submissions will win prizes, such as a solar backpack or skateboard. Drawings begin the week of TBD, and winners will be announced in “Happenings” on this site. Entering early does not affect the chances of winning a grand prize trip to Washington D.C. All qualifying submissions postmarked on or before the TBD deadline will be considered for the grand prize competition.
Category Winners: Three students (one in each grade cluster) whose work best exemplifies the Challenge Criteria will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. for 2 (each student-winner and one parent/legal guardian). Winners will also be invited to participate in the National Energy Efficiency Forum in Washington, D.C., June 15-16, 2011, where they will share their ideas with energy and government leaders.
State Winners: The highest scoring student in each state and province will receive additional recognition. Schools may also be eligible to receive a $1,000 U.S. charitable donation to help beautify their school, educate their students, or impact their community. There must be 25 entries per state in order to declare a winner.
Scholarship: Igniting Creative Energy Scholarship Fund is a perpetual scholarship which awards students in the ICE Challenge who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to energy and the environment. Johnson Controls has donated the initial scholarship funds and looks to energy stakeholders to pledge their support for these extraordinary students in their educational pursuits. Scholarship eligibility.
The teacher with the highest average score of their top 15 entries when submitting 15 or more qualified student entries (entries earning 25 or more points each based on the Challenge Criteria) will also receive a Washington, D.C. trip for 2 (the teacher and one family member) for the same fun and educational experience. The teacher winner will also be invited to participate in the National Energy Efficiency Forum in Washington, D.C., June TBA, where she/he will share hers/his ideas with energy and government leaders.
Certificates of participation will be available for every student and teacher.
